Yoplait reduces sugar by 25%

yogurt-spoon-glass-pot-isolated-white-background-48987308Yoplait has announced a 25% reduction of sugar in each single serve cup of its Original line of yogurts, the latest in what General Mills says are its efforts to provide consumers with category leading better-for-you products. Following Yoplait’s removal of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and its discontinued use of dairy with rBGH/rBST growth hormone in 2009, the new reduced sugar Original yogurt will provide fans with the great taste they have come to love and expect from Yoplait, the company claims.

 

For three years, more than 70 General Mills employees worked on a variety of product improvements for the Yoplait Original line of yogurt. In order to reduce the sugar, the team included additional milk and changed the natural flavourings. The changes resulted in a Yoplait Original that tastes slightly less sweet, but has a taste the team is said to be confident consumers will love. Yoplait Original still contains no artificial sweeteners or flavours, the company notes, and now provides 20 fewer calories and has one additional gram of protein in each six ounce cup.

 

“Our consumers are our top priority, and when they voiced concerns over the amount of sugar in our products we were determined to find a solution,” said Susan Pitt, marketing manager for Yoplait. “We understand that making good nutritional choices isn’t always easy. With less sugar, fewer calories and more protein per cup, we have no doubt that our renovated line of Yoplait Original yogurts will make it easier than ever for our consumers to feel good about their daily yogurt choice.”

 

Determined to deliver on what the company says is its brand promise, with less sugar, great taste and the smooth and creamy texture consumers love, Yoplait is offering a taste guarantee for Yoplait Original with reduced sugar. Any unsatisfied customer can mail in their Yoplait Original receipt to receive a refund.
